Good news. You can make this your best year yet. And no, you don’t have to give up chocolate, alcohol or exercise like a demon, cos BORING!
My advice, ditch the resolutions and use January to get organised. When you’re organised, you’re basically winning at life. I’m talking the, less stress, more fun, hair in a bun getting stuff done, sort of winning. Sounds awesome, but no idea where to start? Here are 4 simple things I did in January to make 2017 easier.
P.S No meditation or giving away of worldly possessions required. Phew!
File away
iPhone folders. They are a thing, and they are brilliant! If your anything like me, you have a gazillion apps, and can’t find any of them without scrolling through your phone for at least 5 minutes…minimum.
Well folks, all that changed when I put my apps into folders. I can now order an Uber in like 10 seconds, and it’s amazing.
How do you do it? Easy!
Just go to your home screen, hold down on an app for 2 seconds until the apps start bouncing, and then drag one app onto another to make a folder. You can name the folder whatever you want. I’ve got ones for music, games, entertainment, photos, utilities, finance, and even shopping.
Oh and while you’re at it, delete the apps you don’t need anymore.
Pokemon Go…so 2016!
Tame the beast
Help! My inbox is exploding!!!!! Said me, every single day last year.
The answer? Last week, I spent a few hours going through and unsubscribing to all the emails I didn’t really want. And guess what? I’ve gone from getting 100 emails a day to 20. And it’s stuff I want to read. I actually look forward to checking my email. I know, crazy right?
So next time you get an email that makes you go meh, don’t just click delete. Take 30 seconds to unsubscribe.
I promise, you will feel less stressed in no time. Plus, you won’t be responsible when the Internet breaks, cos that’s one angry mob you don’t want knocking at your door.
Get photo ready
Do you have delete anxiety? Me too. I have like 42 pictures of every meal I’ve eaten in the last 12 months.
January is the perfect time to clear your camera roll and make room for a new year of breakfast pics. The good news, you don’t have to delete them one by one. If you are using an iPhone, go to your camera roll, choose select, tap the photos you want to delete and then drag them to the trash can. It’s as simple as that.
Don’t have time? Yes, you do. I went through my entire camera roll during TV commercials and waiting for appointments. Easy peasy!
My advice, do it now. The day you run at of storage, will be they day you open the perfect avocado. Seriously, no one wants to miss that Instagram opportunity.
Compare gas and electricity plans
Okay so this is kind of boring, but it could save you some serious cash, so listen up.
There are so many gas and electricity plans these days, the thought of sitting down to make sure I was getting the best deal made my brain want to explode. In fact, I had been putting it off for ages. That is, until I got an electricity bill which actually did make my brain explode, and I was left with no choice.
So how did I do it? I hopped on over to the iSelect website. It’s pretty awesome. They do all the hard work for you, comparing the rates offered by lots of major energy retailers in Australia. All you have to do is upload some details from your gas and electricity bills and hey presto, you get your very own comparison. It even includes an estimated cost under each plan, making it super easy to see whether you are getting the best deal.
Just a warning, iSelect are not shy about calling or emailing you to follow up (they get a commission when you switch). But it’s totally worth it, and I’m sure if you asked them to politely to go away, they would. I’m looking down the barrel of a $200 saving on my next electricity bill. I know right? Love me a bit of extra cash.
Have you done anything to get organised in January? If you have, I’d love to hear about it. And if you want to know more about what I’ve done to make 2017 easier, ask away in the comments below.

Great suggestions! My friend got me on to not spending my $5 notes. I’ve almost saved $100 this month. It’s amazing how many I collect, especially on a morning coffee before work. This is my holiday saving fund ☺
That’s an awesome idea Sarah. My hubby started saving change this year. We counted it yesterday and there was already $60. I have bagsed it for coffee money when I go back to work.
There’s a better site for gas and electricity comparison. http://www.yourchoice.vic.gov.au It’s independent and without commissions or hassles.
Oh that’s great Tamara, thank you so much for letting me know.
I plan on doing a comparison annually from now on, so I will definitely use the You Choice website next time around.
Thanks again
