It turns out that since last time I looked, the Aussie supermarkets have upped their supermarket short cut game. And not just a little bit. In a M.A.S.S.I.V.E way!
Thanks to your local Coles or Woolworths you can cook up a legit healthy meal faster than the Bachelor gets rid of ‘girlfriends’ (in case you don’t speak Bachelor, that means seriously fast!)
And I’m not talking, ready-made meals or packaged sauces. No way! Just, real food ingredients that make cooking a nutritious dinner super quick and easy.
It has seriously never been simpler to land dinner on the table with these awesome supermarket finds.
And FYI, this is not a sponsored post – you must share the stuff you love with your BFF’s. It’s just the way the universe works!!
Get Em’ While They’re Hot
Supermarket roast chickens have always been a time saver. I live by the theory – why cook chicken, when someone can cook it for you? I literally use them in everything.
But, have you spied what’s sitting next to your Hot Roast Chook at Coles and Woolies?
Hot Roast Beef!
No, I am not even kidding.
And guess what guys? It is flipping delicious.
There’s so much you can do with it. Think roast beef sandwiches, Thai beef salad and super quick stir fries. Just cut it up and throw it in. It’s all the good stuff without the kitchen mess.
Beef in a bag. Coles and Woolies – thank you thank you a million times thank you!
Fake Till’ You Make It
Confession Time: I may love healthy food, but cauliflower rice and zucchini noodles, they’re not really my bag. Cos carbs, they’re my soul mate.
But, if you’re gluten intolerant, paleo, or just want to sneak some extra veggies into your meal. Get ready. Your life is about to change.
Coles and Woolies now sell ready to steam zucchini spaghetti and cauliflower rice. Yep it’s all pre-done. All you need to do is steam and serve- #puregenius.
Liquid Coconut Oil
Can’t be faffed melting coconut oil? I’m with you.
Just like butter, coconut oil contains saturated fats which have a melting point of about 24C (76F). That means it can be liquid or solid depending on the season. Unfortunately for me, it’s solid coconut oil season for 9 months of the year (Melbourne weather *insert eye roll*).
Okay. I know. I hear you. It only takes a minute to melt. But, when there’s a bottle of olive oil in the pantry ready to pour, that’s a minute too long. Amiright or amiright?
Enter Coco Earth liquid coconut oil. It’s still 100% coconut oil, but has had some of the saturated fat removed so that it always stays liquid. It’s basically coconut oil for lazy people…amen!
Full disclosure: Not everyone is a fan of liquid coconut oil.
Solid coconut oil supporters argue coconut oils health benefits are in the fatty acids, which are removed to make it liquid. Whereas, liquid coconut oil supporters say it’s healthier because it doesn’t contain the type of saturated fats, which are linked to increasing your risk of heart disease.

Chop Chop
The best way to sneak veggies into any meal…carrot! Green stuff leads to husband tantrums. But carrot. Carrot I can get away with.
The problem with carrots. To hide them, you have to grate them. And grating carrots is about as bad as chopping onions. One makes you cry and the other makes you sweaty. I’m talking total upper body workout. I mean whose got time for that when they’re cooking dinner, right?
But good news guys. Coles and Woolies have a solution. Pre-packed shredded carrot. Yup, grated and ready to dump straight into your Bolognese sauce to sneak in that extra hit of veg.
From now on, the only arm workout you’ll get at dinner is lifting your wine glass. Whoop whoop!!
Now I get it. Packaged anything is not the most sustainable option. Plus, they’re more expensive than regular carrots. But, if you’re short on time and it’s the difference between veg or no veg, I choose veg every single time!
